Andor/Yokogawa spinning-disk confocal microscope

The Center recently acquired an Andor/Yokogawa spinning-disk confocal microscope system. The new confocal system enables higher speed imaging (50+ frames per second) than the existing confocal microscopes and uses objective scanning for 3-D imaging, versus sample scanning, allowing vibrationally sensitive samples to be imaged for longer time periods. The addition of a UV-laser source expands the range of dyes and quantum dots that can be used for imaging. The use of the new instrument will help keep MRSEC researchers at the forefront of confocal-microscope-based research in soft matter material systems. Harvard researchers will continue to give training courses on new techniques developed at the MRSEC to the wider user community.
