Max Herman
Research Fellow/Software Engineer
School of Engineering and Applied Sciences

Max Herman received his B.S. and M.S. in mechanical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA, USA in 2013. He has worked in the Harvard Biodesign Laboratory since 2014 as part of the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. He began working as a Research Fellow helping to develop the Soft Robotics Toolkit, an online open-access educational resource for students and researchers. His work on the Toolkit involved expanding the online platform through gathering detailed scientific documentation sets from other research labs and helping to develop alternative low-cost educational materials for low resource environments. He recently helped test these educational materials through local workshops and outreach programs, where empirical data was collected to understand how students interact with and learn from robotics programs. He also helped launch the annual "Soft Robotics Competitions" wherein students are encouraged to innovate new ideas related to current soft robotics research by experimenting with new materials, geometries, and manufacturing methods.
