International Industrial Partnership:
Developing an Microfluidic Acoustic Wave Cell Sorter

Instrumentation Development

In concert with Cytonome, a biotech company in Bedford, Massachusetts, Weitz is leading an international team at the Harvard MRSEC that is using droplet-based technology together with new surface-acoustic wave techniques to achieve more efficient cell sorting in microfluidic devices. The team includes MRSEC graduate student, Kirk Mutafopulos (front) who previously worked in industry before coming to Harvard and is partially supported through a minority graduate Fellowship from the University. In addition, the team also includes an international collaborator, Wen Li (far right), a faculty member from Shanghai University. Such industrial support both leverages and reinforces the impact of our Center research in essential biotech applications.
